I went to the State Conference, competed in Creed, and earned the Star Greenhand award while raising pigs on the livestock team. I am so excited to have this opportunity. The Salinas FFA officer team and I will still make this a great year and try to get everyone involved with either livestock, competitions, or public speaking. Outside of school and FFA I show pigs competitively around the nation and get to meet new people and also play volleyball for fun. The officer team and I work very hard to make all of our activities fun. I was never involved in 4-H or ever competed in a speaking competition as a kid and FFA changed a lot for me. This was my first year in FFA and it was the best time of my life. It has done so much for me and I really hope it does the same for you!

Now I can say that I have competed in Creed and B.I.G., attended Greenhand and State Conference, and been a delegate at a regional meeting. Last year at our annual banquet, I was honored to be awarded with the Chapter Star Greenhand Award, one of the highest achievements for lower-classmen. The next week at the sectional screening, I was elected to be the 2019-20 Monterey Bay Sectional Sentinel. I am currently raising a rabbit for MCF and SBCF. This will be my first livestock experience, since I did not raise last year. For my first year in FFA, I participated in speaking competitions such as Opening and Closing all three years, Creed speaking my freshmen year, going to many of the conferences, and raising livestock. In my free time, I love to go to Hollister Hills and go ride dirt bikes with my friends “Braaap.” During the summer is when I am always at the lake either fishing or wakeboarding behind the boat. Jessica Stewart - Sentinel
My name is Jessica Stewart and I am a part of the Salinas FFA Chapter. I am upon my junior year at Salinas High. I was born in Salinas and I’ve been here all my life. I am a huge softball player and over summer I travel like crazy for tournaments. I have put a lot of time and dedication into that sport. Luckily for me, it has payed off. I am a Utah State commit and am super excited to study Agriculture in Logan. As for me as a person, I am super energetic, passionate, dedicated, hardworking and I have my quirks. I have always been a “daddy’s girl” ever since I was little. Riding bikes, hunting, fishing and wearing overalls were really my cup of tea back then. Although I don’t ride bikes as much and act like a pro dirt bike rider, I still enjoy spending my time with my dad either hunting out on the refuge or going to the lake and having a blast “rippin’ lips”. I am in FFA because I love the outdoors. Being the fact that I basically grew up hunting with all the boys, I am very passionate about the Ag industry. I am the Sentinel for the Salinas FFA Chapter. This is my first year being an officer and I have learned so much. The classes I have taken in my FFA program consist of Ag Chemistry, Advanced Sustainable Science, Welding and Ornamental Horticulture.I am looking forward to represent the Salinas FFA Chapter this year as Sentinel. I am also looking forward to being a part of this remarkable leadership team.
