Diana Ochoa-Chavez, Student Advisor

Hello folks of the Salinas FFA fam! I’m Diana Ochoa-Chavez and this year I am serving as your Student Advisor. I am a senior and throughout my participation in FFA I have attended chapter meetings, socials and competed in Agriscience Fairs as well as Public Speaking. I am committed to creating an environment that is inclusive of intersecting identities and generates respect for our peers and mentors--despite all our differing experiences and degrees of privilege. However, I believe that our unifying factor is our drive to overcome obstacles and grow as people. In the future, I strive to serve my community as a public defender with a special focus on immigration, considering I have been impacted by systemic issues. In my free time, I enjoy connecting with my cultural roots by preparing Tlayudas--a Oaxacan dish--with my mother and expressing myself through various creative outlets! I am eager to represent my Chapter and to create memorable experiences with you all :).

Napoleon Navarro, Sentinel

Hey Salinas FFA! My name is Napoleon Navarro and I am your sentinel for the 2021-22 school year. This year is my senior year and I am really looking forward to all the fun things we’ll do as a chapter. I can’t say how much I love learning about Ag because there is so much to discover and it is crucial in our area. In the past I’ve taken part in public speaking contests, leadership conferences, working the fields, and completing countless projects related to agriculture. This summer I had the privilege of working at an organic non-profit named “ALBA Farms” where I planted, harvested, weeded, and irrigated crops. I did this through a Hartnell course that teaches about what it takes to run an organic farm. Aside from this I am also a member of the varsity football and volleyball team and I did band for three years. After high school I plan to attend Hartnell College for two years and then transfer to Cal Poly SLO and major in Agricultural Science, in hopes to become an Ag Teacher.

Jessica Stewart - Sentinel
Picture
My name is Jessica Stewart and I am a part of the Salinas FFA Chapter. I am upon my junior year at Salinas High. I was born in Salinas and I’ve been here all my life. I am a huge softball player and over summer I travel like crazy for tournaments. I have put a lot of time and dedication into that sport. Luckily for me, it has payed off. I am a Utah State commit and am super excited to study Agriculture in Logan. As for me as a person, I am super energetic, passionate, dedicated, hardworking and I have my quirks. I have always been a “daddy’s girl” ever since I was little. Riding bikes, hunting, fishing and wearing overalls were really my cup of tea back then. Although I don’t ride bikes as much and act like a pro dirt bike rider, I still enjoy spending my time with my dad either hunting out on the refuge or going to the lake and having a blast “rippin’ lips”. I am in FFA because I love the outdoors. Being the fact that I basically grew up hunting with all the boys, I am very passionate about the Ag industry. I am the Sentinel for the Salinas FFA Chapter. This is my first year being an officer and I have learned so much. The classes I have taken in my FFA program consist of Ag Chemistry, Advanced Sustainable Science, Welding and Ornamental Horticulture.I am looking forward to represent the Salinas FFA Chapter this year as Sentinel. I am also looking forward to being a part of this remarkable leadership team.
