National FFA Week is one of the Salinas FFA's favorite times of year. To celebrate the officer team planned a week long celebration for the members and the entire school! The celebration was even captured in the local newspaper! National FFA Week Schedule: 2/2O- Member Candy Grams 2/21-FFA Spirit Day and Movie Night 2/22- Future Farmers of AMERICA day 2/23- Petting Zoo and Kiss a Goat Photo from the Salinas Californian, credit to Christian Ponce.
The new Salinas FFA Pest Contol Team had a great experience at the Hartnell Field Day 2018! The team placed third overall!
On the weekend of January 21, 2018 a group of Salinas FFA members attended the Made for Excellence and Advance Leadership Academy conferences in Monterey, California! The students had the opportunity to expand their FFA knowledge, pinpoint their interests, and enhance their leadership abilities. They even had the opportunity to mingle with the State Officers!
On November 29, 2017 the Salinas FFA chapter was proudly represented by seven members at the Monterey Bay Section FFA public speaking competition in King City, California. We had students compete in Creed Speaking, Impromptu, Extemporaneous, and Prepared public speaking.
Winners were as followed... Creed- Haylee H. (Second Place) Impromptu- Taylor S. (Second Place) Prepared- Katie G. (Third Place) and Anika B. (Fourth Place) Congratulations to those that placed and will be moving on to compete at the regional level! On the 18th and 19th of December Salinas FFA members held a "Create your own succulent garden" booth at a local craft fair known as Flair on the Farm. Students had fun arranging succulents and helping customers. Thank you to Flair on the Farm for hosting and to Mrs. Almond for organizing the booth for us, and to all others that donated! The proceeds from the sales go directly towards making the FFA experience better for all our members!
On November the eighth four proud Salinas FFA members traveled to Gonzalez High School to compete in the CO-OPs competition, tremendous success was not had but we are proud of our team!
In the week of October 23th through 27th the Salinas FFA chapter celebrated our annual Greenhnad Week! Throughout the week the officer team put on activities to get the new members (Greenhands) involved. Students that participated in all the events will be receiving their FFA Greenhand Degrees in January.
Monday 10/23- Greenhand Passport hand out/Introduction to Greenhand Week Tuesday 10/24- "Greenhand Day" (Members dye hands green) Wednesday 10/25- Annual Greenhand Auction! (Greenhands are auctioned off to parents as a fundraiser for the chapter) Thursday 10/26- "Tree of Greenhands" (First year members created a tree on the wall using green hand shaped paper with their names on them to be the leaves) Friday 10/27- Greenhand Lunch (pizza party social at lunch in the shop) The Salinas FFA chapter is very proud of all our livestock exhibitors who raised for the Monterey County Fair!
